Perry to Cooper, 2 runs, it is all over. Full on middle, and skewed to midwicket. What should have been an easy run out turns into an overthrow and the subsequent winning runs. West Indies have won their first Women's World T20

The West Indies' men team joins the ladies in their celebrations. Darren Sammy and Carlos Brathwaite run around in joyous hugs with the women, with the tune of "Champion" in the background.

Sensational run-chase, they made a terribly hard chase look so easy. It was nicely set up by their openers Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Matthews, fantastic fifties have essentially done the job for WI. So the Women's team follow the U-19 team as winners of a global event. What joy. And the celebrations show how much it means to them too.

Meg Lanning: "Full credit to the West Indies they came out with the bat, did not quite get the result we wanted. We fell we are a little short, 160 would have been nice. Said that, if we bowled well we would have defended. Really exciting, tough road into the World Cup, proud of the effort that everyone has put in.

Stafanie Taylor is the Man of the Series, what a fantastic tournament the captain has had. "I've been waiting for this a long time and it has come at the right time. Didn't get the start we wanted but the batting has done it for us. Fantastic to know that the men were with us. Sammy sent me a text this morning that we were going to win."

Up come the West Indies players for their medals, beaming smiles on their faces.

Hayley Matthews is the Player of the Match: "Words cant explain what I feel now. Able to bring the trophy home is a great feeling. (Stafanie) was telling me to stay with her."

So, it's come to this. The final over, the reckoning. WI need 19 off six balls... This is it, folks. Time for a hero

Is it too easy to loft 6/6's on  full pitched deliveries on leg stump than a full toss or full length or length ball towards middle stump?  I think only a batsman with a golden touch irrespective of his class at that crunch moments  could do these kinda consecutive butchering . I couldn't reckon that Strokes was as poor as Binu opined.

I do agree with binu...all the 4 balls were half volleys ....first one on the leg side...brath got confidence after geting that juicy ball on the leg side...pinne erinja 3 ennavum same ball aayirunnu....only line varied. all together it was poor bowling rather than a Great bating !!!

If that balls were wayward half volleys, me too agree with u and Binu.  But leg stump based good length balls are a better option to contain and trap batsmen if a deep fine leg and a short fine leg fielders were provided.May be of immense pressure of the last over and that too to get a World cup inches away  distracted Strokes' line and length a bit, whereas margin of error is very less in such kind of length-missing keeper ,becomes wide or sent into stands etc..etc...

Still trying to recuperate from the shock, England all-rounder Ben Stokes said that he felt as if "the whole world had come down" on him after being hit for four consecutive sixes in the title-deciding final over of the ICC World Twenty20 against West Indies, in Kolkata.

With West Indies needing 19 to win in the final over, Carlos Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes of the first four deliveries to help his side claim their record second World Twenty20 title.

"I thought, I've just lost the World Cup. I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to do. It took me so long to get back on my feet. I didn't want to get back up. It was like the whole world had come down on me," Stokes told The Daily Telegraph.

"There weren't any good things going through my mind. It was just complete devastation.

"For about 40 minutes at the end of the game I knew I just had to deal with it. I had to come back out on the field, collect my medal and listen to all the speeches. I knew the cameras would be all over me to see how I was. Obviously, I was gutted but I did not want to show that. I wanted to keep my head up," he said.

But the 24-year-old all-rounder believes that the final over will help him to become a more mature and better player in the future.

"Disappointment is the biggest emotion now. I remember getting the medal and thinking it's just a runners-up medal. You don't want it," he said.

"You want the winner's medal but then later we had two hours in the changing room and all the lads had medals around their neck and we were saying nobody can take this moment away from us. We played for our country in a World Cup final. Let's be proud of that.

"Setbacks make you want to be better again. This will be in my mind for quite a long time and I will reflect on it for a long time. It will be a little bit of motivation to make sure this does not ever happen again. So train 10 minutes longer every now and again to get better," he said.

Stokes said irrespective of the tragedy if given an opportunity he is ready to take up the challenge to bowl a last over of a summit clash again.

"It is something I work at a lot. Some days they go well. Some days they don't. That was a bad day, but I won't be shying away from it."
