G Venugopal - Indian playback singer- the name invokes memories of lilting music and haunting melody. Gifted with a voice described by discerning music lovers as "unbelievably rich", "lush", "opulent" and a singing quality filled with depth and warmth, G Venugopal has in a short span of time made a mark as a singer par excellance. Having hailed from a family of gifted classical musicians has no doubt shaped the formative years of this talented young singer. G Venugopal started his singing career in the film "Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare"(1987) and since then has sung in more than 280 films and has over 250 cassettes to his credit. The many awards he has won including the coveted Best Playback Singer (Kerala State) which he has won thrice, the Film Critics award and the Kerala Kaumudi Gallop Poll award (again twice) further reiterates his popular appeal. The most recent recognition of his melodious voice is the Kerala State award for Best Playback singer(2004) for the song "aadedee--aadaadedee" from the film "Ullam" which makes his tally of state awards an impressive Three!!
Besides, anchoring musical programmes in Kairali channel as well as in Doordarshan and Asianet has made him a household name. G Venugopal is a postgraduate in Literature and Journalism from the Kerala University where he won the first prize for light music, five consecutive years, from 1980 to 1985 and the "sarvakalaaprathibha" title for two years in 1984 and 1985. He resides in Trivandrum with his wife Reshmi and two children Arvind (Monu) and Anupallavi (Ammukutty).

ജി. വേണുഗോപാൽ മലയാളചലച്ചിത്ര പിന്നണി ഗായകനാണ്‌. മലയാളം കൂടാതെ തമിഴ്,തെലുഗ് തുടങ്ങിയ ഭാഷകളിലും പാടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
1987-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഒന്നു മുതൽ പൂജ്യം വരെ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ പൊന്നിൻ തിങ്കൾ പോറ്റും മാനേ പിന്നണി ഗാനരംഗത്തെത്തുന്നത്. സിനിമാ രംഗത്തെത്തുന്നതിനു മുന്നേ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി യൂത്ത് ഫെസ്റ്റിവലുകളിൽ സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. അഞ്ചു വർഷം തുടർച്ചയായി കേരള യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കലാ പ്രതിഭ ആയിരുന്നു. ജി. ദേവരാജൻ, കെ. രാഘവൻ എന്നിവരോടൊപ്പം നാടക രംഗത്തും അദ്ദേഹം സാന്നിധ്യം അറിയിച്ചു, പ്രൊഫഷനൽ നാടകങ്ങളിൽ പാടിയ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു 2000 ലെ നാടക രംഗത്തെ മികച്ച ഗായകനുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാർ പുരസ്കാരം " സബ്കോ സമ്മതി ദേ ഭഗവാൻ " എന്ന നാടകത്തിലൂടെ ലഭിച്ചു.
കേരള സർക്കാർ നൽകുന്ന മികച്ച പിന്നണിഗായകനുള്ള പുരസ്കാരം 1990, 1998, 2004 വർഷങ്ങളിൽ വേണുഗോപാൽ നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
കവിതകൾക്കു സംഗീതം നൽകി ആലപിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുതിയ രീതിയ്ക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് കാവ്യരാഗം എന്ന ആൽബം അദ്ദേഹം പുറത്തിറക്കി. പ്രശസ്തരായ മലയാള കവികളുടെ മികച്ച കവിതകൾ സംഗീതം നൽകി ആലപിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. ഒ.എൻ.വി. കുറുപ്പ്, സുഗതകുമാരി, സച്ചിദാനന്ദൻ, കടമ്മനിട്ട രാമകൃഷ്ണൻ, വിഷ്ണുനാരായണൻ നമ്പൂതിരി, വി. മധുസൂദനൻ നായർ എന്നിവരുടെ കവിതകൾ വേണു ഗോപാൽ ആലപിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. സുരേഷ് കൃഷ്ണയാണ്‌ ഈണം പകർന്നത്.
കാവ്യരാഗത്തിനു ശേഷം ഇറങ്ങിയ കാവ്യഗീതികയിൽ എൻ.എൻ. കക്കാട് , ബാലചന്ദ്രൻ ചുള്ളിക്കാട്, ഡി. വിനയചന്ദ്രൻ തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ കവിതകൾ ആണുള്ളത്. ജെയ്സൺ ജെ നായർ ആണ്‌ കവിതകളുടെ സംഗീതസം‌വിധാനം നിർവഹിച്ചത്.
ഒന്നാം രാഗം പാടി, ചന്ദന മണിവാതിൽ പാതി ചാരി, താനേ പൂവിട്ട മോഹം, കൈ നിറയെ വെണ്ണ തരാം, പൂത്താലം വലം കൈയ്യിൽ തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഗാനങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെ മുന്നൂറോളം ചലച്ചിത്ര ഗാനങ്ങളും 250 ലേറെ കാസറ്റുകളും ഇദ്ദേഹം പാടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്
ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സാഹിത്യത്തിലും പത്ര പ്രവർത്തനത്തിലും ബിരുദാനന്ദര ബിരുദം നേടിയിട്ടുള്ള ജി വേണു ഗോപാൽ ഭാര്യ രശ്മിയോടും മക്കളായ അരവിന്ദ്,അനുപല്ലവി എന്നിവരോടും ഒപ്പം തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്നു.
