| The long-wait for the Kawasaki Z250 is finally over, as the company finally launched the bike in India today. Priced at Rs. 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Z250 is the third member of the company's Z family of naked bikes. At this price, it also becomes the company's cheapest bike in India. However, the unavailability of anti-lock braking system (ABS) on a bike that costs this much might disappoint some enthusiasts. In terms of looks, the Z250 is very similar to the Z800 as it borrows its design from the latter. The new bike has an identical head-lamp assembly, side rear view mirrors and tank design. That said, the Z250 also gets a Ninja 300 inspired tail section, alloy wheels and exhaust. The bikes instrument cluster, too, looks similar to the one found on the Ninja 300; it has the same analogue tachometer and LCD screen display for speed, trip and fuel information. What's different, though, is its back-light and size. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Powering the vehicle is a 249cc liquid-cooled, parallel twin motor that churns out a maximum power output of 33bhp along with 21Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to the 6-speed gearbox, which is also found in the Ninja 250R. To be brought in as completely knocked-down (CKD) units, the Z250 will be assembled locally and sold through Bajaj's pro-biking dealerships. | |

| India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki is trying hard to improve its position in the premium segment. The company recently launched the Ciaz mid-sized sedan, and is readying the S-Cross SX4 crossover for early 2015 launch. If media reports are to be believed, MSI is also contemplating the Vitara compact SUV for the Indian car market. The crossover was unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, and it will directly compete against the likes of Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Yeti and others in the league. The Vitara SUV is based on the iV-4 concept that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It represents Suzuki’s design philosophy with added elements to offer sporty feel. The exteriors of the crossover get aggressive creases and curves running all around the car. Its clamshell bonnet has striking lines which visually flows to meet A-pillar. The bumper features wide air dam and fog lamp enclosure. There is a chrome grille flanked by headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps. The vehicle showcased in Paris featured ORVMs with turn blinkers, flared wheel arches, chrome door handles, sloping roofline, and wrap around rear profile. Inside, the Vitara SUV has newly designed instrument panel garnish and a U-shaped design around the shift lever. The vehicle has leather wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, and leather upholstery for seats. The 5-seater crossover will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options- a 1.6L petrol and diesel units producing 120bhp. The Vitara compact SUV is expected to be priced around Rs. 14-17 lakh, and will give tough fight to the likes of Mahindra XUV 500 and Skoda Yeti in India. | |

| Woman on 6,000-km bike ride to prove India not unsafe
MUMBAI: On Friday, biker Esha Gupta reached Mumbai, the 16th city on her way to cover a total of 20 cities, almost 6,000km, in 40 days, all alone. On what prompted her to set out on this journey, the 35-year-old, who is riding her bike that she bought eight months ago, says she's out to prove to the world that the nation is not as unsafe as it is being portrayed. Gupta has travelled from Chennai to Kolkata to Delhi and has reached Mumbai via Lucknow, covering the golden quadrilateral of highway network. "It will be surreal when I complete my journey in a week more after travelling through so many cities on the national highways. Being a woman, driving through dark roads and meeting strangers was a little scary at times. But my experiences were quite interesting and I was surprised to see how hospitable people of our nation are to absolute strangers," said Gupta. Sharing one of her experiences, she said she had stopped at a senior couple's home at Vijaywada in Andhra and the latter didn't understand English or Hindi, but yet all possible arrangements to make her comfortable. She said that at dhabas along the highways, people would at times be awestruck to see a woman on bike, but would later be friendly. Gupta had not planned her stays and has been stopping over at homes of strangers who have been inviting her on getting to know of her journey. For personal safety, however, Gupta has been carrying a GPS device so that her movements can be tracked, in case of a contingency. "Fight your fears is what I believe. People speak about how unsafe the nation has turned. But I want to prove that they shouldn't pass such judgments without travelling," signs off Gupta, who is ready to leave for Navi Mumbai. She will leave the city on October 12 and drive towards Pune-Kolhapur-Hubli, before reaching her destination Bangalore.

| MUMBAI: Pune based DSK Motowheels a part of Rs 5,000 crore DSK Group is exploring a 51:49 joint venture with QJ group from China to bring in one of the oldest Italian two wheeler brand Benelli super bikes into India.
DSK Motowheels announced on Friday that it has entered into a technical collaboration with Benelli, wherein DSK will assemble and sell the Italian auto major's brands here through exclusive dealerships. DSK plans to bring in at least 5 motorcycles (one 300-cc two 600-cc models, one 899-cc and one 1,130-cc models) in the next two months.
Benelli Motorcycles are expected to be priced between Rs 2.75 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and will compete with the likes of Triumph, Harley Davidson and premium super bikes from the likes of Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha.
Within a short span of time, DSK intends to have dealerships across 8 cities in country, before it is expanded to 20 locations by the end of 2015.
Shirish Kulkarni, chairman, DSK Motowheels told ET, "The technical collaboration is just the first step, as we expand our portfolio, we may look at a deeper collaboration and a joint venture is being explored. We have had talks on 51:49 JV, they are comfortable with us having a majority stake"
This is DSK Motowheels' second tie-up with a superbike maker, after sewing up collaboration with the South Korean firm S&T Motors to sell Hyosung brand in the country. The Hyosung brand has seen an ownership change, with S&T Motors selling the stake to KR Motors, but the tie-up with DSK Motowheels in India remains.
Benelli will have a separate set up including dealership, service network with different operating team operating out of Pune, from DSK Benelli team. Benelli has already committed 15 executives on the project in India
Stating that this is the right time to enter this market, Benelli director of Board, Frank Zhuang said in the company's endeavour to globalise the operation, Indian market was a key pillar for the future.
"India is expected to be a big super power of the future and the two-wheeler is expected to grow in strong double digits, we at Benelli want to participate in this growth. In DSK, we have found a right partner who has understanding of the Indian super-bike market and we are committed for a long term partnership with them," said Zhuang.
For Benelli, which sells 30,000 units annually, Zhuang says, the aim is to look at half a million sales mark in the long term and "if we take the right steps, India could become the largest market for Benelli globally," he added.
Kulkarni says though the start in two wheeler business hasn't been as good as he expected, but he is satisfied with 100% growth Hyosung brand posted over the last one year. He is expecting to sell about 4,500 units in FY16 with 3000 motorcycles from Hyosung brand and about 1,000 to 1,500 units from Benelli.
