| Indian fishermen will be shot if they venture into our waters, says SL PM:  
Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has justified Lankan Navy's actions against Indian fishermen saying that that the law creates provisions for a man to 'shoot' an intruder in his home. In an interview, he said, "If someone tries to break into my house, I can shoot. If he gets killed... Law allows me to do that... On the fishermen issue, as far as I'm concerned, I have very very strong lines. These are our waters... Fishermen of Jaffna should be allowed to fish. We stopped them from fishing, which is why the Indian fishermen came in. They are willing to have a deal... Let's have a reasonable deal... But not at the expense of the income of the northern fishermen." Wickramasinghe comments come ahead of Prime Minister Modi's scheduled visit to Sri Lanka next week. The Lankan PM feels that the shootings does not violate human rights and questions "Why are you coming into our waters? Why are you fishing in our waters? Stay on the Indian side.There will be no issue." | |

| ജി. കാര്ത്തികേയന് അന്തരിച്ചു  കേരള നിയമസഭാ സ്പീക്കറും കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതാവുമായ ജി. കാര്‍ത്തികേയൻ അന്തരിച്ചു. കരളിലെ അര്‍ബുദത്തിന് ചികില്‍സയിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണം ബാംഗ്ളൂരിലെ ആശുപത്രിയിലായിരുന്നു. മൃതദേഹം ഇന്ന് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് എത്തിക്കും. ബാംഗ്ളൂരിലെ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ ദിവസങ്ങളായി ചികിത്സയിൽ കഴിയുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഹെപ്പാറ്റിക് ഡയാലിസിനും രണ്ടു തവണ റേഡിയേഷന്‍ തെറാപ്പിക്കും വിധേയനാക്കിയിരുന്നു. തുടര്‍ ചികില്‍സ സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള പരിശോധനകള്‍ നടക്കുന്നതിനിടെ ഇന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നില വഷളാകുകയായിരുന്നു. ഒൗദ്യോഗിക പരിപാടികള്‍ റദ്ദാക്കി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ഉമ്മൻ ചാണ്ടി തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു. ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രി രമേശ് ചെന്നിത്തല ബെംഗളൂരുവിലേക്ക് പുറപ്പെട്ടു. മന്ത്രി എം.കെ.മുനീര്‍. എം.എല്‍.എമാരായ കെ.എം.ഷാജി, അബ്ദുറഹ്മാന്‍ രണ്ടത്താണി എന്നിവര്‍ ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തി. കെഎസ്‍യുവിലൂടെ രാഷ്ട്രീയരംഗത്തെത്തിയ ജി.കാര്ത്തികേയന് സംഘടനാ രംഗത്തും പാര്‍ലമെന്‍ററി രംഗത്തും നാലുപതിറ്റാണ്ടിന്‍റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തന പരിചയമുണ്ട്. പതിമൂന്നാം നിയമസഭയില്‍ സ്പീക്കറായ കാര്ത്തികേയന് ആറു വട്ടം എം.എല്‍.എയും രണ്ടു വട്ടം മന്ത്രിയുമായിരുന്നു. 1949 ജനുവരി 20 ന് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് വര്‍ക്കലയില്‍ ജനനം. കെ.എസ്.യൂവിലൂടെയാണ് പൊതു രംഗത്തെത്തുന്നത്. 1978 ല്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിലുണ്ടായ പിളര്‍പ്പിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് കെ.കരുണാകരനൊപ്പം അടിയുറച്ചു നിന്നു. തിരുത്തല്‍ വാദകാലത്ത് കരുണാകരനില്‍ നിന്ന് അകന്നു . രമേശ് ചെന്നിത്തല , എം.ഐ .ഷാനവാ സ് എന്നിവരോടൊപ്പം തിരുത്തല്‍ വാദി വിഭാഗത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കി. കെ.എസ്.യൂ സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്‍റ്, യൂത്ത് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് സംസ്ഥാന ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി , യൂത്ത് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ് സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്‍റ്,കെപിസിസി ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി, കെപിസിസി വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്‍റ് പദവികള്‍ വഹിച്ചു.1980 ല്‍ ആദ്യമായി നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ മല്‍സരിച്ചെങ്കിലും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു. വര്‍ക്കല മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ വര്‍ക്കല രാധാകൃഷ്ണനോടായിരുന്നു തോല്‍വി. 1982 ല്‍ തിരുവനന്തപുരം നോര്‍ത്തില്‍ സി.പി.എമ്മിലെ കെ അനിരുദ്ധനെ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തി ആദ്യമായി നിയമസഭാംഗമായി. 1987 ല്‍ ഇതേ മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ എം. വിജയകുമാറിനോട് തോറ്റു. പിന്നീട് തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി നാലുവട്ടം ആര്യനാടുനിന്നും 2011 ല്‍ അരുവിക്കരയില്‍ നിന്നും നിയമസഭയിലെത്തി.2011ല്‍ സ്പീക്കറായി. 95 ല്‍ ഏ.കെ ആന്‍റണി മന്ത്രിസഭയില്‍ വൈദ്യുതി മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു. 2001 ലെ ആന്‍റണി മന്ത്രിസഭയില്‍ സിവില്‍ സപ്ലൈസ്, സാംസ്കാരിക വകുപ്പു മന്ത്രിയും. | |
