Ganguly to make IPL comeback with Kochi

Kochi: Former Indian and Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly is once again linked to make a sensational comeback in the IPL with Kochi franchisee, sources have told CNN-IBN.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala, who are making their IPL debut this year, is keen to take Sourav Ganguly on board seven days after the kick-off for the fourth season of the IPL.

Ganguly is likely to be included as a replacement player for Kochi Tuskers after Steve Smith was ruled out of the tournament. And if Ganguly dons the orange, the Kolkata icon will debut for Kochi against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on April 20.

So the KKR fans, who were shouting in anger when KKR dropped Ganguly, are sure to have a jaw-dropping scenario when their favourite son sits in the opposition dug-out.

Ganguly, along with Mumbai captain Wasim Jaffer and Punjab pacer VRV Singh were the only three Indian players to remain unsold at the end of the two-day auction that took place in January in Bangalore.

As per IPL rules, a team can replace an injured player if he is out for an entire season, but can only opt for someone with the same base price or lower. As Kochi bought Smith at his base price of $200,000, they are obliged to pick any player from the auction pool with the same base price or lower even though they have plenty of money left in their kitty to afford Sourav's $400,000 price tag.
