TODAY COMEDY FESTIVAL GRAND FINALE
Loud laughter back in drawing rooms
Whether it's 'Jalian Kanaran' or 'Pashanam Shaji,' they have all brought the true boisterous laughter back through mini-screen. There was an era in Malayalam showbiz industry when audience enjoyed almost perfect comedy and enjoyed sincere and bellyful of laughter. The sudden and massive change in the entertainment business scenario coupled with channel explosions made monetary gains primary and standards of progammes secondary. The most affected by this was the area of comedy where substantial stuff gave way to substandard rib-ticklers. Though reality shows aired through various channels had worthwhile contents in the initial stages, they invariably failed to hold the grip in the due course. It is here the comedy reality show, aired through Mazhavil Manorama channel has made it mark. The strength of the reality show, 'Comedy Festival' is arguably the talented participants, many of whom have already made it into the big screen.

Who Win The Title Of Comedy Festival ?
FINALIST
1. V4U from Malabar
'Jalian Kanaran' was one of the most popular comedy skits presented by the V4U team from Kozhikode. Vinod Kovoor had written the basic script and it was developed into a full fledged comic drama later. “The initial form had only 3 people. Then two more were added to it,” Siraj, one of the team members, said. Other members of the team are Devarajan, Nirmal, Hareesh and Pradeep.
Sitting in a small tea shop, Jalian Kanaran always boasts about his glorious past. Though initially his mellifluous narrative invites curious listeners, the mismatch of facts and figure proves his fancy and they are thrown away by the extremity of his false accounts. For example, he says once, "While one side of the Indian currency has Gandhiji's portrait, the same spot on the other side is left blank, you know why?" While listeners wait eagerly, Kanaran resumes, "It's my portrait they are waiting for. The day I give my consent my image will appear there."The role of Jalian Kanaran is played by Hareesh, who said that the character was modelled on real-life personality in his native place.
“There is something very special about our team,” says Pradeep, “We are the only team, which represents five districts in the Malabar region. We did not have much expectations when we came to Kochi to participate in the reality show. But the support we got from various parts of the State, has been overwhelming.”
2. Little Stars
'Little Stars is the “dwarf” team participated in the comedy festival. Though the members of the team are short, their performance speak volumes. Their skit 'Dracula' had scored 100 out of 100 for the first time in the history of Comedy Festival .
Interestingly, many of the members in the team have acted in movies. Few others continue to get offers from directors in different languages.
“We have a star image now. People recognise us anywhere. We have got a large exposure from the show and the judges are also very good,” said a team member. “The audience have given fantastic support and we are thankful to Subish, creative coordinator, for helping us to scale heights,” he added.
The team members include Pradeep Perumbavoor, Baiju Perinjanam, Sumesh Vaikom, Vijayakrishnan Pookkottumpadam and Shafeek Mayyanad.'
3. Super Kings
The team stood true to its name 'Super Kings' with its skit 'Deradun'. According to the judges “the skit resembled the Malayalam film, 'Ordinary'". The concept had genuine comic elements which were tailored to suit the script.”
'Deradun' had received good response from social media too. There is a close resemblance between the story and Kuttanturuthu, a place in Ernakulam district. “A number of people in the place are similar to the characters in Deradun. They have been a source of inspiration for us to write the script,” Jayadev Kalavoor, leader of the team, said. Other members are Binu, Sivadas, Shihab and Sudheer.
4. Stars of Cochin
'Pashanam Shaji' was one among the popular characters staged by the 'Stars of Cochin.' The skit fetched a basketful of appreciation for Saju Navodaya who had donned the role of Shaji.
The videos of the skit has earned a good number of comments in You tube for the team work and Saju shot into fame with the performance in the skit.
“There was a familiar person in my place who had the mannerisms of Pashanam Shaji. He always wanted to create problems for other people. The character of Pashanam Shaji in the skit was based on that person,” said Saju Navodaya.
The team is one among the ten teams, which has qualified for the semi-final round of the reality show.
Joshi Mahatma, Rajesh Paravoor, Kollam Sudhi, Jisho and Saju Navodaya are the members in the team 'Stars of Cochin.'
