Randeep Hooda brings legendary artist Raja Ravi Varma to life in Rang Rasiya The makers of Rang Rasiya have released a new trailer of the film, giving more insight into the film’s premise and why it was important to depict the story on the celluloid.
Directed by Ketan Mehta, the film features Randeep Hooda in the role of the legendary 19th century Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma. Economist Amartya Sen’s daughter Nandana Sen plays the character of Sugandha in the film.
The film is in making since many years now, and thus the actors look a little younger in the trailer. However, thanks to his well groomed physique, Randeep Hooda still looks the same. The sets look grand and full of special properties to make it appear authentic. The characters are made to wear ornaments and clothes which were prevalent in India before the beginning of the 20th century.
Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya fought censors for five years
Considered one of the finest Indian painters ever, Raja Ravi Varma is known for his depiction of tales from Hindu mythological texts. The Maharaja of Travancore patronised his art but the traditional society was against his paintings which celebrated the beauty of female anatomy.
Ketan Mehta hasn’t come up with a film in last 9 years. His last release as a director was Mangal Pandey – The Rising in 2005.
