ന്യൂഡൽഹി: വിലക്കയറ്റം എന്ന വിഷയം ഏറ്റെടുത്ത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനെ നേരിട്ട പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്രമോദി അധികാരത്തിലേറിയ ശേഷം ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് സമ്മാനിച്ചത് വിലക്കയറ്റം മാത്രമാണെന്ന് ആം ആദ്മി പാർട്ടി നേതാവ് അരവിന്ദ് കേജ്‌രിവാൾ പറഞ്ഞു. വിലക്കയറ്റം തടയുന്നതിന് വേണ്ട ഒരു നടപടിയും മോദിയുടെ ഭാഗത്ത് നിന്നുണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല. ജനങ്ങൾ അത് കാരണം പൊറുതിമുട്ടിയിരിക്കുകയാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ഡൽഹിയിൽ നിയമസഭ പിരിച്ചുവിട്ട് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടത്തണമെന്നാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് ആം ആദ്മി പാർട്ടി നടത്തിയ ബഹുജന റാലിയിൽ സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

ഡൽഹിയിൽ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനെ നേരിടാൻ ബി.ജെ.പി ഭയക്കുന്നത് വിലക്കയറ്റം ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ തടയാനാകാത്തത് മൂലമാണ്. ഇപ്പോൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനെ നേരിട്ടാൽ ലോക്‌സഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിലെ കോൺഗ്രസിന്റെ സ്ഥിതിയായിരിക്കും ബി.ജെ.പിക്കെന്നും കേജ്‌രിവാൾ പറഞ്ഞു.

ആം ആദ്മി സർക്കാരിന്റെ 49 ദിവസത്തെ ഭരണം തിരിച്ചുവരണമെന്നാണ് ജനങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്. അത് തടയാനാണ് കോൺഗ്രസും ബി.ജെ.പിയും ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത്. അതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നീട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടത്തിയാൽ ആം ആദ്മി പാർട്ടി കേവല ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തിന് വിജയിക്കും. തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നീണ്ടാൽ എല്ലാ സീറ്റുകളും ആം ആദ്മി പാർട്ടി തൂത്തുവാരുന്ന സ്ഥിതിയുണ്ടാകുമെന്നും കേജ്‌രിവാൾ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിച്ചു.

ജനങ്ങളിൽ ആം ആദ്മി പാർട്ടിക്കുള്ള സ്വാധീനം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുവരികയാണെന്ന ആരോപണങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള മറുപടിയായിരുന്നു ഇന്നലെത്തെ റാലി. രാവിലെ മുതൽ തന്നെ നഗരത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നായി നൂറുക്കണക്കിന് പേരാണ് റാലി നടന്ന ജന്തർ മന്ദറിലേക്ക് ഒഴുകിയെത്തിയത്. വൈകിട്ട് മൂന്ന് മണിയോടെ ജന്തർമന്ദർ പ്രദേശമാകെ ആം ആദ്മി പ്രവർത്തകരെ കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ആം ആദ്മി തൊപ്പി ധരിച്ച് ദേശീയ പതാകകളുമാണ് പ്രവർത്തകർ ജന്തർമന്ദറിൽ നിറഞ്ഞത്. തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന് ശേഷം നടത്തിയ ആദ്യ ജനകീയ പ്രതിഷേധമായിരുന്നു ഇന്നലെത്തേത്. തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന് മുന്നോടിയായിട്ടുള്ള ആദ്യ പ്രചരണ പരിപാടിയിട്ടാണ് പാർട്ടി പ്രവർത്തക‍ർ റാലിയെ വിലയിരുത്തുന്നത്.

Angry Sushma promises to summon Lanka envoy over Jaya-Modi pics:   

There was high drama inside and outside Parliament today over the controversial pictures of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which appeared on a Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website last week. Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned following an uproar by AIADMK MPs.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu was forced to make a statement on the issue saying that India will raise the issue with the Sri Lankan government. While, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said she condemned the incident and would summon the Lankan envoy.

UPSC exam row: Centre says English marks will not be included:      :chintha1: 

In a major development to end the row over the alleged language bias in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination, the Centre on Monday clarified that marks of English language skills should not be included in merit.

The move is a slight climbdown by the Centre following the massive protests by Civil Services aspirants and Parliamentarians who have accused the UPSC of bias against those from rural, Hindi and regional language background.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh said in the Lok Sabha that all the aspirants who appeared for the Civil Services Examination from 2011 would get one more more attempt in 2015.

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 24. But it is still to be seen if the move is acceptable to the UPSC as well as protesting aspirants.

Power minister Piyush Goyal says coal stock only for 4 days left


Giving an indication of the fuel shortage in the country, Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal Monday said 22 coal-based power plants monitored by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) had stocks to last less than four days as of last week.

"As on 29th July, out of the coal-based power stations monitored on daily basis by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), 22 power plants are having coal stock less than four days," Goyal informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The minister cited deficient monsoons as a major reason for low coal stocks at power plants.

"Due to deficient monsoon, hydro generation has reduced considerably, thus requiring enhanced generation from coal-based stations. Due to this, coal requirement has increased," Goyal said.

"Thus during June, 2014 there was a record growth of 20.35 percent in coal-based generation as compared to last year during the same month," he added.

Meanwhile, state miner Coal India (CIL) achieved an output of 33.1 million tonnes (MT) in July as against the target of 35.80 MT, the company said in a filing Monday to the BSE.

In the first four months of the current fiscal, the company's production was 141.34 MT, while the target for the period was 148.81 MT.

In the situation of fuel shortages, the government has advised power producers to import 54 MT of coal in the current fiscal.

Import of coal in the last fiscal was 168.44 MT, while in 2012-13 the country imported 145.785 MT of the fuel.

NEW DELHI: Activists have begun questioning the Modi PMO's promise of transparency. A RTI application seeking details, including file notings, of the Union Cabinet's decision to scrap GoMs and EGoMs was returned merely stating the decision in a cryptic eight-line response. Activists say this is in violation of multiple orders given by the Central Information Commission (CIC) and provisions of the Right to Information Act.

Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI)'s Venkatesh Nayak had sought details of the decision to abolish Empowered Group of Ministers and Group of Ministers as published on the PMO website on May 31. Nayak also sought a copy of presentations given by various departments to the PM on the issue.

The first query was answered by the mere statement that the PM had decided to abolish the GoMs and EGoMs. The second query was transferred by the PMO to the Cabinet Secretariat who sent it back saying that the information must be sought from respective departments.

Neither the Cabinet Secretariat nor the PMO confirmed that they have a copy of the presentations in violation of an order by a full bench of the Delhi HC that says public authority has a duty to confirm or deny the existence of a record in its custody when sought for under the RTI Act.

Earlier faced with a similar problem activist Subhash Agrawal had filed an appeal with the CIC complaining that applications sent to the PMO were not being transferred to the respective departments in violation of section 6(3) of the RTI act that directs the public authority to transfer the query to the concerned department. "Earlier the PMO always transferred the query to the concerned public authority but in recent months it has changed its attitude and returns the queries wasting precious time," Agrawal said.

Nayak said that in fact the PMO was also violating a June 2012 CIC order which says that papers, documents and file notings related to all cabinet decisions must be made public once the process is completed. "The promise of transparency under the NDA Government is increasingly becoming a social media exercise with little substantive information and hardly any official record being placed in the public domain on even the most basic of matters. And one is not even seeking information that has a bearing on national security". Nayak said.

ന്യൂഡൽഹി: ഈദ് ദിനത്തിൽ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി ഇസ്ലാം വിശ്വാസികൾക്ക് ആശംസ നേരാത്തതിനെ ത്രിണമൂൽ കോൺഗ്രസ് എം.പി സുധീപ് ബന്ധോപാദ്ധ്യായ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തു. പാർലമെന്രിൽ ശൂന്യ വേളയിലാണ് സുധീപ് പ്രശ്നം ഉന്നയിച്ചത്. നേപ്പാൾ സന്ദർശനത്തിനിടെ മോദി പശുപതിനാഥ് ക്ഷേത്രം സന്ദർശിച്ചതും നെയ്യും ചന്ദനവും സമർപ്പിച്ചതും സുധീഷ് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. മോദിയുടെ പ്രവർത്തിയെ അഭിനന്ദിക്കുന്നുവെന്നും എന്നാൽ മറ്റ് സമുദായത്തിന് ഈദ് ആശംസ നേരാമായിരുന്നുവെന്നും തൃൺമൂൽ എം.പി പറഞ്ഞു.

മതേതരത്വവും സമുദായിക സൗഹാർദ്ദവും ദേശീയോദ്ഗ്രഥനവുമാണ് ഇന്ത്യ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന തത്വങ്ങളെന്നും ചില ഹീന ശക്തികൾ സാമുദായിക സംഘർഷം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

എൻ.സി.പി നേതാവ് താരിഖ് അൻവർ,​ ആംആദ്മി നേതാവ് ഭഗവത് മൻ തുടങ്ങി ടി.ആർ.എസിന്രെയും ടി.എം.സിയുടെയും എം.പിമാർ സുധീപ് ബന്ധോപാദ്ധ്യായയെ പിന്താങ്ങി.

എന്നാൽ,​ ഈ സർക്കാർ 'സർവ്വ ധർമ്മ സംഭവ്' എന്ന ആശയത്തിലാണ് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് പാർലമെന്രറികാര്യ മന്ത്രി വെങ്കയ്യ നായിഡു വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ഇസ്ളാം മത വിശ്വാസികൾക്ക് മോദി ഈദ് ആശംസകൾ നേർന്നതായും അദ്ദേഹം മറുപടി നൽകി.

രണ്ടു മാസത്തിനിടെ യു.പിയില്‍ 600 വര്‍ഗീയ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുകള്‍    

ന്യൂഡല്‍ഹി: കേന്ദ്രത്തിലെ അധികാരമാറ്റത്തിനു ശേഷമുള്ള രണ്ടു മാസങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ യു.പിയില്‍ ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ 600ല്‍പരം വര്‍ഗീയ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുകള്‍. വൈകാതെ നിയമസഭാ ഉപതെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടക്കാനിരിക്കുന്ന 12 മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിലോ, അതിനോടു ചേര്‍ന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലോ ആണ് ഇതില്‍ മൂന്നില്‍ രണ്ടുമെന്ന്, ഇതേക്കുറിച്ച് പഠനം നടത്തിയ ‘ദി ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എക്സ്പ്രസ്’ ദിനപത്രം റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്തു.
ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ സാമുദായിക ഏറ്റുമുട്ടലുകള്‍ നടന്നത് പശ്ചിമ യു.പിയിലാണ്. വലിയ കലാപത്തിന് വേദിയായ മുസഫര്‍നഗറിനടുത്ത ഈ മേഖലകളില്‍ 259 സംഘര്‍ഷ സംഭവങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടായി. തെറായ് മേഖലയില്‍ 29, കിഴക്കന്‍ യു.പിയില്‍ 16; ബുന്ദേല്‍ഖണ്ഡില്‍ ആറ്.
പള്ളി-മദ്റസ നിര്‍മാണവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കാര്യങ്ങള്‍, ഉച്ചഭാഷിണി ഉപയോഗിക്കല്‍ എന്നിവ സംഘര്‍ഷത്തിനുള്ള വിഷയമാക്കി മാറ്റിയെടുത്തെന്നാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നത്. മാട്ടിറച്ചി വില്‍ക്കല്‍, പൂവാല ശല്യം എന്നിവയും സംഘര്‍ഷത്തിനുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങളായി. മാസങ്ങളായി നിര്‍മാണം നടന്നുവന്ന ചിലേടങ്ങളില്‍, അവ പൊളിച്ചു കളയണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവുമായി ഒച്ചപ്പാട് തുടങ്ങിയത് ഏതാനും ആഴ്ചകള്‍ മുമ്പുമാത്രം.
ദലിത് വിഭാഗക്കാരും മുസ്ലിംകളും ഇടകലര്‍ന്ന് കഴിയുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രകോപനമുണ്ടാക്കാന്‍ വ്യക്തമായ ശ്രമം നടന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലോക്സഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ വിജയിച്ച എം.എല്‍.എമാരുടെ അസംബ്ളി സീറ്റുകളിലാണ് ഉപതെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പു നടക്കാന്‍ പോവുന്നത്. ജയിച്ചതില്‍ മിക്കവരും ബി.ജെ.പിക്കാര്‍. ബി.ജെ.പിയും സമാജ്വാദി പാര്‍ട്ടിയും ബി.എസ്.പിയും സംഘര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ വളര്‍ത്തുന്നതില്‍ പങ്കുവഹിച്ചതായും കണ്ടത്തെി.

ഇന്‍ഷുറന്‍സ് ബില്‍: വീണ്ടും സര്‍വകക്ഷി യോഗം  

എ.ഐ.എ.ഡി.എം.കെയും പ്രതിപക്ഷത്തിനൊപ്പം  

ന്യൂഡല്‍ഹി: ഇന്‍ഷുറന്‍സ് നിയമഭേദഗതി ബില്‍ രാജ്യസഭയില്‍ പാസാക്കിയെടുക്കാനുള്ള കേന്ദ്രസര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ശ്രമം കൂടുതല്‍ വിഷമം പിടിച്ചതായി. എ.ഐ.എ.ഡി.എം.കെയും തങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊപ്പം ചേര്‍ന്ന് ബില്‍ സെലക്ട് കമ്മിറ്റിക്ക് വിടണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതായി പ്രതിപക്ഷ പാര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ അവകാശപ്പെട്ടു. ഈ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തില്‍ സമവായമുണ്ടാക്കാന്‍ ഒരു തവണ കൂടി സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ബുധനാഴ്ച സര്‍വകക്ഷി യോഗം വിളിച്ചു.
ഇന്‍ഷുറന്‍സ് രംഗത്ത് പ്രത്യക്ഷ വിദേശനിക്ഷേപം 26ല്‍നിന്ന് 49 ശതമാനമാക്കി വര്‍ധിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്ന ബില്ലില്‍ മോദി സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ഭേദഗതി നിര്‍ദേശങ്ങള്‍ സെലക്ട് കമ്മിറ്റി പഠിച്ച ശേഷം മാത്രം പാസാക്കല്‍ ശ്രമവുമായി മുന്നോട്ടു പോകണമെന്നാണ് പ്രതിപക്ഷ പാര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നത്. പ്രതിപക്ഷ നിരയില്‍നിന്ന് ബി.ജെ.ഡി, കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിന്‍െറ സഖ്യകക്ഷിയായ എന്‍.സി.പി എന്നിവയുടെ പിന്തുണ ഇതിനകം നേടിയെടുത്ത സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ പ്രതിപക്ഷ പാര്‍ട്ടികളെ വശത്താക്കാനുള്ള പിന്നാമ്പുറ നീക്കങ്ങളിലാണ്. ഇതിനിടെയാണ് സര്‍ക്കാറിനൊപ്പം നില്‍ക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച എ.ഐ.എ.ഡി.എം.കെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നിലപാട് സ്വീകരിച്ചത്.  
യു.പി.എ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ഇന്‍ഷുറന്‍സ് ബില്‍ പാസാക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചതാണെന്നും ഇപ്പോള്‍ എതിര്‍ക്കുന്നത് ഇരട്ടത്താപ്പല്ളെന്നും പാര്‍ട്ടി വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്‍റ് രാഹുല്‍ ഗാന്ധി വിശദീകരിച്ചു. എന്‍.ഡി.എ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ചില ഭേദഗതികള്‍ ബില്ലില്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ സെലക്ട് കമ്മിറ്റിയാണ് പഠിക്കേണ്ടതെന്ന് രാജ്യസഭയിലെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് ഗുലാംനബി ആസാദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke the Himalayan freeze that had descended on ties with Nepal during his recent visit to that country.

The first prime minister in 17 years to undertake a bilateral visit to Nepal, Modi won hearts and friends during his two-day visit. He addressed the Nepali parliament – only the second global leader to do so, the first being then German chancellor Helmut Kohl in 1990 – where he spoke of India’s HIT policy towards Nepal: H for highways; I for info-ways; and T for transways.

He also announced a $ 1 billion concessional line of credit for Nepal for various development purposes.

Apart from these, during a visit to the famous Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu on Sunday, Modi also offered 2,500 kilogrammes of sandalwood and 2,400 kg of ghee to the shrine.

White sandalwood, according to the web site of the Cauvery Handicrafts Emporium, a Karnataka government enterprise, costs about Rs 16,000 a kg. So Modi’s gesture of offering 2,500 kg of the precious wood, comes to around Rs 4 crore.    

At Rs 390 a kg, the value of ghee offered to the temple works out to Rs 936,000.  

The cost of sandalwood and ghee thus works out to around Rs 4.09 crore.    

Interestingly, there is no mention in the government’s press releases if Modi intended these as a personal or governmental gesture.

When quizzed about who would foot the bill, a senior government official confirmed that it would be borne by the Government of India and described the gesture as India’s “bhaktibhaav se arpan (an offering to God with India’s devotion)”.

But that the issue was far from clear is evident from a senior journalist’s remark that the cost will be borne by the prime minister from his personal funds, not in one go but spread over three to four years.

According to his election affidavit filed from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, Modi’s personal finances amount to Rs 65,91,852, the bulk of it being in various bank deposits amounting to Rs 58,54,383. Apart from this, he also declared a property in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, worth Rs 1 crore.
