In Haryana, an Amit Shah Master-Class on How to Win Elections
While politics in Maharashtra dominates headlines, the real story of last week's election was scripted by the BJP in Haryana, where it crafted a winning strategy despite not having a solid organisational base or a party network built over years.
The Haryana win is a story of meticulous poll planning and management by the party's new president, Amit Shah, who functions like the CEO of a big company. His approach to elections involves astute distribution of work among leaders and workers and keeping track of implementation.
Shah realised that the BJP had made an unduly generous pact with Kuldeep Bishnoi of the Haryana Janhit Party in the national elections this year, by conceding more seats to the partner than it could possibly win.
So after taking over the reins of the party in July, Amit Shah held fresh talks with Bishnoi and offered him 20 seats, instead of the 45 he had asked for. He also offered the post of deputy chief minister if the partners won the elections.
Bishnoi rejected the offer and the BJP decided to go it alone.
It, however, neither had enough candidates nor the organisational structure and workers to contest all 90 seats. So Shah imported disgruntled leaders from other parties like the Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal overnight and handed them ticket.
The sagacity of that decision can be gauged from the fact that of the 47 BJP candidates who won, 17 had joined from other parties recently.
Then, entire contingents of BJP workers were transported from other states. The man in-charge of elections in the state was Kailash Vijayavargiya, a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, and he brought with him a large number of workers and leaders from there.
Apart from Madhya Pradesh, MPs and MLAs from Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were also posted in the state. Leaders and workers were handed charge of each of the 90 seats and 22 districts and they had submit daily reports.
The BJP's ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activated its network. Swayamsewaks were given the responsibility of mobilising workers for every booth. On polling day, separate arrangements were made to bring voters to the booths.
A key challenge was to prevent the polarisation of Jat votes in favour of four-time chief minister Om Prakash Chautala of the INLD. So the BJP gave 25 tickets to Jat candidates, very aware of its image of being a party more aligned with non-Jats in the state.
It fielded the wife of Chaudhary Virendra Singh, a powerful Jat leader imported from the Congress. Also, prominent roles were assigned to Jat leaders Chaudhary Virendra Singh, Captain Abhimanyu and Om Prakash Dhankad to win votes from the influential community, which is the single largest chunk of voters at around 22 per cent.
The party did manage to breach the Jat vote bank to some extent. Six of its Jat candidates won. The party paid particular attention to Jat youth banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity among the young.
At the same time, the BJP cautiously ensured that this attempt to win favour with the Jats should not upset its core vote bank of non-Jats in the state.
In the last leg of the campaign, when reports emerged that Captain Abhimanyu could become chief minister, the party was quick to contradict this and threw all its weight behind its 48 non-Jat candidates to ensure their success.
41 of them won, one of the reasons that ML Khattar, a non-Jat leader, will be the state's new chief minister.
In its campaign, as it did in Maharashtra, the BJP used 90 buses equipped with video messages from PM Modi - one for each seat. CDs of Mr Modi's address at the Madison Square Garden in New York were distributed widely and prime time slots were purchased on local news channels to propagate the party's message.
According to party strategists, the powerful impact the Prime Minister made in America, won a lot of support among the youth for the BJP.
Finally, the BJP identified seats where the margin of victory or defeat was likely to be less than 5000 votes. Workers were given instructions to ensure that at least 5000 additional votes were cast in favour of its candidates in each of these.
The exercise involved handing one page from the voters' list to one worker, who would then be responsible for contacting every voter on it, ensure they reached the polling booth and convincing them that the BJP was the best choice.
The party also kept a close watch of activities on the rival camps and also on the Satta or betting market, daily following the rates on each party's chances of winning or then how individual candidates were expected to fare. Reports were sent to the top leadership.

7 year old Yogita Thakre was found dead on 19 May 2009 inside a car owned by Gadkari outside his residence in Nagpur Maharashtra. Gadkari was away in Mumbai on that day and arrived at night. The politician’s wife was away too but their two sons were at home. The driveway where Yogita was last seen playing and her body was found was manned by security guards and Gadkari's driver Manohar Panse. Yogita's mother, Vimal Thakre, who works as a domestic help in the area, had asked the guards at the house around 5.30 p.m. whether they had seen her daughter. She had been with them two hours earlier but the guards said they didn't know where she had gone. Then around 7 p.m., when Vimal went back to the house, she was told by Manohar Panse, Mr Gadkari's driver, that Yogita was "sleeping" inside a car when in fact, she was dead.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] The preliminary investigation of the case was severely botched up. The investigating Police Inspector Kotale was transferred later. Social worker Umesh Choube pointed out that the police report made no mention of the injury marks. The Panchanama had mentioned scratch marks about 1.5 inches long were seen behind her right ear. Scratch marks were also found on her wrists. Her underwear had bloodstains and blood was inside her private parts too. Scratch marks were also found on her right knee. The Honda belonged to Gadkari; the brown Fiat was said to belong to his Purti Group's managing director Sudhir Dive. The Forensics Examination found no evidence of rape in Yogita's body. One Week, Many Reforms: PM Modi Burnishes Economic Credentials Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unleashed a slew of reforms in the past week, scrapping fuel subsidies, simplifying labour rules and pledging to open coal mining to private players in a bid to kickstart the economy.
The reforms are seen as some of the most significant since Mr Modi and his BJP swept the national election in May.
But analysts say the reforms so far represent the low-hanging fruit. They point out that because the government and its allies are still in a minority in the Upper House or Rajya Sabha, they will find it tough to push through more politically sensitive changes that are key to getting growth back on track.
In a week, Mr Modi has reduced paperwork and inspections of factories to ease the burden of manufacturing in India, which is currently at an unenviable 134th on a World Bank ease-of-doing business chart.
Over the weekend, his government released diesel pricing from state control, ending one of India's costliest subsidies. It also cleared a delayed increase in domestic gas prices, hiking by one-third the amount the government pays natural gas producers to encourage exploration which will in turn make India less dependent on imports.
Economists have long argued India's potential will only be unleashed when it curbs subsidies, relaxes suffocating regulation and rigid labour laws and eases complex rules governing industrial land acquisition.
On Monday the government announced measures to pave the way for private companies to sell coal, which will eventually help break the monopoly of one of the world's biggest mining giants, Coal India, which is state-run.
The government is also readying to sell a five-percent stake in state-run heavyweight Oil and Natural Gas Corp. in the hope of raising $3 billion or Rs. 18,300 Crores, which would help trim this year's fiscal deficit.
The stock market has already reached near record heights as the PM tries to jumpstart growth that fell below five percent last year -- half the rate of just a few years ago.
The government plans in the next parliamentary session to scrap nearly 300 outdated laws, many of which were enacted under British colonial rule and contribute to a notoriously cumbersome legal system.
The reforms enacted so far, economists say, will reduce red tape and help draw foreign investors.
Mr Modi has already appealed to the world to "make in India" as the country seeks jobs for its army of young people.
However, the big-bang reforms, such as amending the industrial disputes act to make it easier to lay off workers, are untouched.

ന്യൂഡല്ഹി: വിദേശബാങ്കുകളില് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പേരുകള് പുറത്തുവിടാനുള്ള സര്ക്കാര്തീരുമാനം വന്രാഷ്ട്രീയ തര്ക്കത്തിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങുന്നു.
'ചില' പേരുകള് പുറത്തുവിടുമെന്ന ധനമന്ത്രിയുടെ പ്രസ്താവന മറ്റുചിലരെ സംരക്ഷിക്കാനുള്ള നീക്കമാണെന്നും ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തിയുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രീയമുതലെടുപ്പ് വേണ്ടെന്നും കോണ്ഗ്രസ് ബുധനാഴ്ച മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നല്കി. എന്നാല്, മുന് യു.പി. എ. സര്ക്കാറിലെ ഒരു മന്ത്രിയുടെ പേരും വിദേശത്ത് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പട്ടികയില് ഉള്പ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്ന സൂചനയുമായി ധനമന്ത്രി അരുണ് ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി തിരിച്ചടിച്ചു.
കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പേരുകള് പുറത്തുവിട്ടാല് കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിനാണ് നാണക്കേടെന്ന് ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ഇതാണ് രാഷ്ട്രീയ തര്ക്കത്തിന് വഴിവെച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാവിലെതന്നെ ശക്തമായ പ്രതികരണവുമായി കോണ്ഗ്രസ് രംഗത്തെത്തി. വിദേശത്ത് ഇന്ത്യക്കാര് നിക്ഷേപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കള്ളപ്പണം സംബന്ധിച്ച് എല്ലാ വിവരങ്ങളും വെളിപ്പെടുത്താന് കേന്ദ്ര സര്ക്കാറിനെ കോണ്ഗ്രസ് വക്താവ് അജയ് മാക്കന് വെല്ലുവിളിച്ചു.
അര്ധസത്യങ്ങള് പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യപരമായി ചില കാര്യങ്ങള്മാത്രം പുറത്തുവിടുന്നതും സര്ക്കാര് അവസാനിപ്പിക്കണം. കള്ളപ്പണവിഷയത്തില് കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിനെ ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്താമെന്ന് കരുതേണ്ട. കുറ്റക്കാര് ആരായാലും അവര്ക്കെതിരെ ശക്തമായ നടപടിയെടുക്കണം. ജനങ്ങളെ സര്ക്കാര് തെറ്റിദ്ധരിപ്പിക്കുകയാണെന്നും മാക്കന് കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തി.
''വിദേശത്ത് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ള 136 പേരുകള്മാത്രം പുറത്തുവിടാനുള്ള സര്ക്കാറിന്റെ നീക്കം ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യപരമാണ്. എല്ലാ പേരുകളും പുറത്തുവിടണം. കള്ളപ്പണം തിരികെകൊണ്ടുവന്നാല്, ഓരോ പൗരനും 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ ലഭിക്കുമെന്ന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുസമയത്ത് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയിരുന്നു. അധികാരത്തില് എത്തി നൂറുദിവസത്തിനുള്ളില് കള്ളപ്പണം പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരുമെന്നാണ് ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രി രാജ്നാഥ് സിങ് ബി.ജെ.പി. അധ്യക്ഷനായിരുന്നപ്പോള് പറഞ്ഞത്. എന്.ഡി.എ. സര്ക്കാര് അധികാരത്തില് എത്തി 150 ദിവസം പിന്നിട്ടിട്ടും ഒരുരൂപ പോലും തിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരാന് സാധിച്ചിട്ടില്ല'' അജയ് മാക്കന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.
എന്നാല്, വിദേശത്ത് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പട്ടികയില് മുന് യു.പി.എ. സര്ക്കാറിലെ മന്ത്രിയുണ്ടെന്ന് വാര്ത്താ ചാനലുമായുള്ള അഭിമുഖത്തില് ധനമന്ത്രി അരുണ് ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച് ആവര്ത്തിച്ചുള്ള ചോദ്യത്തിന്, ആ വിവരം ശരിവെക്കാനോ നിഷേധിക്കാനോ അദ്ദേഹം തയ്യാറായില്ല.
''നിഷേധിക്കാനും ശരിവെക്കാനുമില്ല. ചിരിക്കുകമാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ''ധനമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ആരെയാണ് ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അറിയാമെന്ന് മറുപടി നല്കിയ മന്ത്രി, സമയമാകുംവരെ കാത്തിരിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. മന്മോഹന് സിങ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിലെ മന്ത്രിയാണോ എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് അത്തരം വിവരങ്ങള് നല്കിയാലും കരാറിലെ വ്യവസ്ഥകള് ലംഘിക്കലാകുമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിലെ ഏറെ സ്വാധീനമുള്ള വ്യക്തിയുടെ പേരുണ്ടോയെന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് വിശദമായ വിവരങ്ങളിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നില്ലെന്നായിരുന്നു മന്ത്രിയുടെ മറുപടി. രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാര് ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ളവര്ക്കെതിരെയുള്ള ആരോപണങ്ങള് തെളിഞ്ഞാല് അക്കാര്യം കോടതിയില് പറയും. തുടര്ന്നത് പരസ്യമാകും. കുറ്റം ചുമത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളവരുടെ പേരുകളാണ് കോടതിയെ അറിയിക്കാന് പോകുന്നതെന്നും ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

വിഘടനവാദികളായ ഹുറിയത്ത് കോണ്ഫ്രന്സിന്റെ രണ്ട് വിഭാഗങ്ങളും സന്ദര്ശനത്തിനെതിരെ കടുത്ത നിലപാടാണ് സ്വീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. സമാധാനപരമായ പ്രതിഷേധപ്രകടനങ്ങളും സമരവും സംസ്ഥാനത്തുടനീളം സംഘടിപ്പിക്കാന് ഈ സംഘടനകള് ആഹ്വാനംചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
''പ്രളയത്തില് ദുരിതമനുഭവിക്കുന്ന കശ്മീരുകാര്ക്കായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാതിരുന്ന കേന്ദ്രസര്ക്കാറിനെ അവരുടെ മുറിവില് ഉപ്പുതേക്കാന് അനുവദിക്കില്ലെന്ന്'' സംഘടനകളിലൊന്നിന് നേതൃത്വംനല്കുന്ന സയ്യിദ് അലി ഷാ ഗീലാനി പ്രസ്താവനയില് പറഞ്ഞു.
സമരം പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ സന്ദര്ശനത്തെ ബാധിക്കാതിരിക്കാനുള്ള ഒരുക്കങ്ങള് സംസ്ഥാനസര്ക്കാറും സൈന്യവും തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. രാവിലെ ശ്രീനഗറിലെത്തുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയുമായും ഉന്നതോേദ്യാഗസ്ഥരുമായും ദുരിതാശ്വാസ പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ചര്ച്ചചെയ്യും. ദുരിതാശ്വാസക്യാമ്പും അദ്ദേഹം സന്ദര്ശിക്കും. കഴിഞ്ഞമാസമുണ്ടായ കനത്ത മഴയിലും വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്തിലും മുന്നൂറിലേറെപ്പേരാണ് മരിച്ചത്. 15 ലക്ഷത്തോളം പേര് കെടുതി നേരിട്ടു.
പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയെത്താന് മണിക്കൂറുകള് മാത്രം ശേഷിക്കെയാണ് അതിര്ത്തിയില് പാകിസ്താന് വീണ്ടും വെടിനിര്ത്തല്ക്കരാര് ലംഘിച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാവിലെ പത്തരയോടെയാണ് സാംബാ ജില്ലയില് നാരായണ്പുരില് പാക് അതിര്ത്തി സേനയുടെ ആക്രമണം ഉണ്ടായത്. ബി.എസ്.എഫ്. ഭടന്മാരും പ്രത്യാക്രമണം നടത്തി. വെടിവെപ്പില് ഇന്ത്യന്ഭാഗത്ത് ആളപായമോ കാര്യമായ നാശമോ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല.

കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പേരുകള് പുറത്തുവിട്ടാല് കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിനാണ് നാണക്കേടെന്ന് ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസം പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. ഇതാണ് രാഷ്ട്രീയ തര്ക്കത്തിന് വഴിവെച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാവിലെതന്നെ ശക്തമായ പ്രതികരണവുമായി കോണ്ഗ്രസ് രംഗത്തെത്തി. വിദേശത്ത് ഇന്ത്യക്കാര് നിക്ഷേപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കള്ളപ്പണം സംബന്ധിച്ച് എല്ലാ വിവരങ്ങളും വെളിപ്പെടുത്താന് കേന്ദ്ര സര്ക്കാറിനെ കോണ്ഗ്രസ് വക്താവ് അജയ് മാക്കന് വെല്ലുവിളിച്ചു.
അര്ധസത്യങ്ങള് പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യപരമായി ചില കാര്യങ്ങള്മാത്രം പുറത്തുവിടുന്നതും സര്ക്കാര് അവസാനിപ്പിക്കണം. കള്ളപ്പണവിഷയത്തില് കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിനെ ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്താമെന്ന് കരുതേണ്ട. കുറ്റക്കാര് ആരായാലും അവര്ക്കെതിരെ ശക്തമായ നടപടിയെടുക്കണം. ജനങ്ങളെ സര്ക്കാര് തെറ്റിദ്ധരിപ്പിക്കുകയാണെന്നും മാക്കന് കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തി.
''വിദേശത്ത് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ള 136 പേരുകള്മാത്രം പുറത്തുവിടാനുള്ള സര്ക്കാറിന്റെ നീക്കം ദുരുദ്ദേശ്യപരമാണ്. എല്ലാ പേരുകളും പുറത്തുവിടണം. കള്ളപ്പണം തിരികെകൊണ്ടുവന്നാല്, ഓരോ പൗരനും 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ ലഭിക്കുമെന്ന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുസമയത്ത് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയിരുന്നു. അധികാരത്തില് എത്തി നൂറുദിവസത്തിനുള്ളില് കള്ളപ്പണം പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരുമെന്നാണ് ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രി രാജ്നാഥ് സിങ് ബി.ജെ.പി. അധ്യക്ഷനായിരുന്നപ്പോള് പറഞ്ഞത്. എന്.ഡി.എ. സര്ക്കാര് അധികാരത്തില് എത്തി 150 ദിവസം പിന്നിട്ടിട്ടും ഒരുരൂപ പോലും തിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരാന് സാധിച്ചിട്ടില്ല'' അജയ് മാക്കന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.
എന്നാല്, വിദേശത്ത് കള്ളപ്പണമുള്ളവരുടെ പട്ടികയില് മുന് യു.പി.എ. സര്ക്കാറിലെ മന്ത്രിയുണ്ടെന്ന് വാര്ത്താ ചാനലുമായുള്ള അഭിമുഖത്തില് ധനമന്ത്രി അരുണ് ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച് ആവര്ത്തിച്ചുള്ള ചോദ്യത്തിന്, ആ വിവരം ശരിവെക്കാനോ നിഷേധിക്കാനോ അദ്ദേഹം തയ്യാറായില്ല.
''നിഷേധിക്കാനും ശരിവെക്കാനുമില്ല. ചിരിക്കുകമാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ''ധനമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ആരെയാണ് ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അറിയാമെന്ന് മറുപടി നല്കിയ മന്ത്രി, സമയമാകുംവരെ കാത്തിരിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. മന്മോഹന് സിങ് മന്ത്രിസഭയിലെ മന്ത്രിയാണോ എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് അത്തരം വിവരങ്ങള് നല്കിയാലും കരാറിലെ വ്യവസ്ഥകള് ലംഘിക്കലാകുമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
കോണ്ഗ്രസ്സിലെ ഏറെ സ്വാധീനമുള്ള വ്യക്തിയുടെ പേരുണ്ടോയെന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് വിശദമായ വിവരങ്ങളിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നില്ലെന്നായിരുന്നു മന്ത്രിയുടെ മറുപടി. രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാര് ഉള്പ്പെടെയുള്ളവര്ക്കെതിരെയുള്ള ആരോപണങ്ങള് തെളിഞ്ഞാല് അക്കാര്യം കോടതിയില് പറയും. തുടര്ന്നത് പരസ്യമാകും. കുറ്റം ചുമത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളവരുടെ പേരുകളാണ് കോടതിയെ അറിയിക്കാന് പോകുന്നതെന്നും ജെയ്റ്റ്ലി വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര: മോദി പ്രസംഗിച്ച 27 മണ്ഡലങ്ങളില് 17ലും ബി.ജെ.പി തോറ്റു മൂന്നു ലക്ഷത്തിലേറെ ആളുകള് റാലിക്കത്തെിയ ബാരാമതിയില് ബി.ജെ.പി സ്ഥാനാര്ഥി തോറ്റത് 89,791 വോട്ടിന് ന്യൂഡല്ഹി: ലോക്സഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് ആരംഭിച്ച മോദി തരംഗം നിലനില്ക്കുന്നുവെന്നും ഈയിടെ നടന്ന നിയമസഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുകളില് ബി.ജെ.പി നേടിയ വിജയം മോദി സൂനാമിയുടെ ഫലമാണെന്നുമുള്ള വാദം പൊളിയുന്നു.
മോദി തരംഗത്തെക്കാളുപരി സംസ്ഥാന സര്ക്കാറിനെതിരായ ഭരണവിരുദ്ധ വികാരവും എതിരാളികളുടെ ഭിന്നതയും റെബലുകളുമെല്ലാമാണ് ബി.ജെ.പിക്ക് ഇവിടെ വിജയം സമ്മാനിച്ചതെന്നാണ് നിരീക്ഷകരുടെ വിലയിരുത്തല്. മഹാരാഷ്ട്രയില് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഒറ്റകക്ഷിയായി മാറിയിട്ടും മോദി പ്രചാരണത്തിനത്തെിയവയില് പകുതിയിലേറെ മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിലും ബി.ജെ.പി സ്ഥാനാര്ഥികള് തോറ്റു തുന്നം പാടുകയായിരുന്നു. 27 തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പു റാലികളിലാണ് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി പങ്കെടുത്തത്. ഇതില് വിജയം കണ്ടത് പത്തിടത്ത് മാത്രം. ഓരോ റാലിയിലും ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് പ്രവര്ത്തകര് പങ്കെടുത്തുവെന്നായിരുന്നു അവകാശവാദം. എന്നാല്, ഈ ലക്ഷങ്ങളൊന്നും വോട്ടായി മാറിയില്ല. ശരദ് പവാറിന്െറ തട്ടകമായ ബാരാമതിയില് മൂന്നു ലക്ഷത്തിലേറെ ആളുകള് റാലിക്കത്തെിയെന്നായിരുന്നു കണക്ക്. പവാറുമാരെ കെട്ടുകെട്ടിക്കണമെന്ന ആഹ്വാനമാണ് മോദി നടത്തിയത്. എന്നാല്, വോട്ടെണ്ണിത്തീര്ന്നപ്പോള് ബി.ജെ.പി സ്ഥാനാര്ഥിക്കെതിരെ അജിത് പവാര് നേടിയത് 89,791 വോട്ടിന്െറ മേല്കൈ. മഹാരാഷ്ട്രയില് മോദി പ്രചാരണം തുടങ്ങിയത് ബീഡില് നിന്നാണ്. പരേതനായ ബി.ജെ.പി നേതാവ് ഗോപിനാഥ് മുണ്ഡേയുടെ സ്വന്തം നാടായ ഇവിടെ ബി.ജെ.പി സ്ഥാനാര്ഥി എന്.സി.പിക്കാരനോട് തോറ്റു. കഴിഞ്ഞകുറി ബി.ജെ.പി വിജയിച്ച കങ്കാവാലിയിലും മോദിയുടെ റാലിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഫലം അവിടെയും തോല്വി. മോദി എത്തിയ പന്തര്പൂരിലും തുല്ജാപൂരിലും കോണ്ഗ്രസ് ആമോദപൂര്വം വിജയിച്ചു. പിംപ്രി സംവരണ മണ്ഡലത്തില് സഖ്യകക്ഷിയായ റിപ്പബ്ളിക്കന് പാര്ട്ടി ഒഫ് ഇന്ത്യ (അതാവലെ ഗ്രൂപ്) സ്ഥാനാര്ഥിക്കു വേണ്ടിയായിരുന്നു മോദിയുടെ പ്രസംഗം. പിന്നാക്ക മണ്ഡലമായ ഇവിടെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ സന്ദര്ശനമെന്നാല് മഹാ സംഭവമാണ്. റോഡുകള് മുഴുവന് നിറഞ്ഞു കവിഞ്ഞ ആ ദിവസം രണ്ടു ലക്ഷത്തോളം പേര് എത്തിയെന്നായിരുന്നു വിശ്വാസം. എന്നാല്, അവിടെ ജയിച്ചത് ശിവസേന. ആര്.പി.ഐ. സ്ഥാനാര്ഥി മൂന്നാമത്. സമീപ മണ്ഡലമായ ഭോസരിയില് ബി.ജെ.പി സ്ഥാനാര്ഥി നാലാം സ്ഥാനക്കാരനുമായി.

CBI raids V K Singh aide’s house in probe into ‘irregular’ RAW purchases - The CBI registered an FIR on Wednesday against unknown officials of the Cabinet Secretariat and Special Frontier Force and three directors of Sai Baba Builders and Consultants, a private firm linked to former defence contractor Shambhu Prasad Singh, for alleged irregularities in supply of high-altitude pre-fabricated shelters to the SFF, a unit of the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW).
